What is English for Families?
English for Families is a great new way to have a holiday with your family and learn English at the same time! It allows parents to spend quality time with their children as well as improve English. This can be for just the children; for 1 parent and the children or for the whole family. After English Lessons have been completed you will have lunch with your Teacher and then decide on the afternoon activity programme together. It’s a great way for Young Learners to improve their English, especially if they are nervous about being away from their parents. This programme is ideal for young learners up to sixteen years of age, attending with their parents. (Older than that and we will encourage them to come alone or with a friend and leave the parents behind ? )
All family members will be given the choice to attend lessons or stand down. You can even change the family members who attend lessons each day. All you know is that at 0900hrs your teacher will be sitting at her table, waiting for all or just some of you to come to the lessons. It really is a great opportunity to study English and at all English levels. So Morning Lessons will be each day and afternoon activities can be discussed with your teacher.
Our families all have spacious accommodation and you could be situated in the City Centre, possibly around Canterbury or Ashford or Margate or in the countryside but still near enough to the wonderful beaches and interesting cities. Don’t forget to make Rochester one of your must visit City Centres
Many of our English for Families are completed for the summer but be sure to contact us for Autumn and Christmas Dates in 2019 or maybe you wish to start early and book your Summer 2020 holiday
Why Kent county side is best suited for this type of English course?
The south east of England is an area of outstanding natural beauty as well as being near to International Airports and Eurostar Rail links. Lets not forget the Harbour Ports of Dover and Newhaven should you wish to drive with your family. So much choice on how to arrive in this stunning area. It is one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom and an area that you should always put on your “ must see bucket list!”
Places to see after you have finished our English Lessons
The Kent countryside is full of National Trust places to visit. Try Churchill’s house at Chartwell or maybe you want to visit Knole and walk in the park there and see all of the deer which roam freely thoughout the site. For a magical afternoon then you should stop off at Scotney Castle. A wonderful Castle; stately home and woodland walks. And best of all, they are all family friendly.

Take a look at all of the National trust sites in Kent. You will be very surprised.
Rochester – A wonderfully historic mesmeric market town on the River Medway. Charles Dickens, who owned Gads Hill Place, Higham, based many of his novels around this area. The Diocese of Rochester, the second oldest in England, is centred on Rochester Cathedral and was responsible for the founding of a school, now The King’s School. The streets are all cobbled giving an amazing feel to the place. There is a wonderfully free Museum to visit and the view from the Castle across the River should not be missed
Canterbury – What can we say about this City other than you should go and visit. With the Cathedral; City Walls; Town Cryer’s and historical places all around the town you will soon be spoilt for places to see and visit. In fact you will may well want to visit again and again, especially if you can combine this with a trip up the River. Well worth taking on a sunny day.
Whitstable – For a wonderfully old fashioned bucket and spade afternoon then you have to visit Whitstable. It’s a very popular area with wonderful beaches and safe swimming. Additionally if you want to sit outside one of the many cafes and enjoy an Ice Cream then you could not choose a better location . Whitstable is now becoming one of the more popular places to spend an afternoon if you escape from London, so be sure you get there early to get your deckchair in the sun
Margate – Home of the Turner Gallery and currently enjoying a revival. There is also a delicious Tidal Pool where you can swim each day without fear for your safety. Margate was a very popular holiday destination for British people from the East End of London in the 1940’s 50’s and 60’s and remnants of this can be seen everywhere. Do stop off at the Turner Gallery as well for a touch of culture.
Broadstairs – Another old fashioned town that time has forgotten. Walk down the High Street and you will be amazed at the amount of independent small shops selling everything possible. It truly is a High Street without all of the large chains. You can walk down to the Beach and sit and watch the sun go down. Its also very popular here with meditation and you can often find people meditating on the Beach at sunrise or sunset
Chatham ( Dockyard) or to give it its full name Chatham Historic Dockyard is now a maritime museum and formed part of the original royal/naval dockyard. Chatham Dockyard covered 400 acres and was one of the Royal Navy’s main facilities for several hundred years until it was closed in 1984. However it has now been transformed to a wonderful meeting area; a place to sit in the sun by the river and enjoy a meal or a drink and also walk along the dockyard and visit the museums. A great place to visit as well as Rochester if you are looking for a day out with some history and culture
When to visit
July and August are very popular times to visit. But it can be busy with tourists and holiday markers so also consider coming out of High season, such as May and June or September. All of these months have long days which can be warm and sunny. Handy to all of the Ports and terminals, it’s a win win situation in any of the towns in Kent.
