Hello! My name is Dave and I live with my partner Abby and her daughter Amber. We have 2 cats as well, Luna and Sol. We have made our home in Shoreham by Sea, very close to Brighton on the south coast. It’s a lovely location as we have both the beach and the beautiful Sussex South Downs all within walking distance.

Both Abby and I have worked as teachers and we are both currently working in secondary schools. I work as a one to one Tutor teaching a variety of disadvantaged students, helping them to improve their Maths and English. Abby works as a Pastoral manager, helping children with a variety of challenges that they may have and trying to overcome any barriers to learning to help them succeed in the classroom. I have worked in both primary and secondary schools for over 10 years. I have also worked in an English Language school in the UK during the summer season. Abby has worked in secondary schools in a variety of roles including Cover Supervisor, teaching a variety of subjects, and as a French teacher, having spent much of her childhood growing up in France.

We have both travelled extensively and spent time living in other countries. I travelled the world as a Scuba diving instructor, working in Egypt, Zanzibar, Malaysia and Australia. I have also travelled through many countries in Central and North America, South East Asia and East Africa. Abby has travelled to many places in Europe and also lived in Russia having studied Russian at university.

As a family, we would like to welcome you into our home and we really hope you will enjoy your stay here and feel comfortable. We like to get out and about so as well as improving your English within our home we hope you can experience some of what Sussex has to offer and use your English language skills out in the real world.

We live in Shoreham by Sea in Sussex. It’s a small town located between Brighton and Worthing on the south coast. We are approximately a 20 minute walk into the town and just a little further onto the beach. The town has many small shops and cafes and even a museum to learn more about the history of Shoreham which dates back to pre-Roman times. The beach is great for swimming and has a lovely boardwalk running the length of it ending at Shoreham fort which dates back to 1857. The beach is a local nature reserve due to its unusual plants and wildlife. In the other direction we have the lovely South Downs national park which has a variety of walking opportunities to places such as Truleigh Hill and Devil’s Dyke. There are also the ancient hill forts of Chanctonbury and Cissbury rings close by that date back thousands of years. Running through the town is the river Adur with a fantastic path alongside it for walking and cycling. The city of Brighton and Hove is only 20 minutes away with its famous pier, the Brighton pavilion and a variety of shopping opportunities.

A walk into the town then onto the beach and up to the fort. If the sea looks nice we can have a swim too followed by fish and chips!

A walk or drive up on to the South Downs, either to Truleigh Hill, Devil’s Dyke or Chanctonbury ring, followed by a cream tea or pub lunch!

Catch the train or bus into Brighton and experience the many attractions the city has to offer. A stroll on the famous Brighton pier or a walk through the many narrow lanes with a variety of shops.

A cycle ride along the seafront to Lancing or Worthing followed by an ice cream or a coffee.
