About :

After many years in business and travelling around the world, I have found my true vocation – I love teaching, and have been teaching English for nearly 6 years in a prestigious international language school in Oxford, specialising in one-to-one tuition, especially Business English, and Cambridge exam preparation.

The best way to improve your English is by spending time in the country, combining studying the language with using it while enjoying the culture and lifestyle of the country. My home is the perfect place in which to immerse yourself in English country life on a one-to-one language course, being quiet and cosy but close to all amenities and a wide range of attractions and activities. I can offer fully-flexible courses to suit any level, from beginners to near-native, based on your own strengths and weaknesses, and what you need to be able to do better, whether listening, speaking and pronunciation, grammar, creative or report writing, note-taking, developing reading skills – whatever you wish. Your interests and needs dictate the course content, and whatever your profession, I can tailor-make a course to suit your requirements, enhance your abilities and confidence, and equip you with the study skills to enable you to continue progressing independently beyond the course.

In my spare time I enjoy studying, and am currently preparing the final module of my Delta qualification, having passed the other two modules with Merit. Whenever possible I like to read, usually history or fiction, or binge-watch Netflix of course, or take advantage of the glorious countryside nearby, on long walks by the River Thames, or climb the wooded hills that surround the town. As well as getting out and exploring the area, I like to cook and bake – my particular speciality is cake-making, and I’m always trying out new recipes and methods with the aim of creating the perfect Afternoon Tea for my guests.

About the Local Area :

High Wycombe lies in the heart of the Chiltern Hills – a very pretty part of Buckinghamshire located between London and Oxford, with lots of picturesque villages, quaint pubs, stately homes and historical churches as well as glorious countryside of gentle hills, woods and farmland. My house, a little bungalow with private front and back gardens, is about a kilometre from the town centre where there are good shops, restaurants, bars, a bowling alley, cinema and theatre, and there is also a large, modern sports centre with Olympic-sized swimming pool, great gym equipment, classes and even rock climbing. The railway station offers regular and fast trains to London and Oxford, each about 30 minutes away, and the famous riverside towns of Marlow and Henley-on-Thames are accessible by local bus, where boat trips and watersports can be arranged. On excursions we can visit Windsor Castle and Waddesdon Manor, built by the Rothschilds, the art gallery founded by Stanley Spencer in nearby Cookham, go wine tasting at a local vineyard or sample the local beer at the brewery, visit the Open-Air Museum for a glimpse into village life in past centuries, or see how the Bletchley Park code-breakers devised ways of intercepting German military messages during WWII and how their top-secret colleagues created maps at Hughenden Manor. Art, culture, world-famous sightseeing, history, landscapes and entertainment are all within easy reach, from a very comfortable and friendly base.

Excursions avaliable :

London is a 25-minute train ride away, with frequent services to Marylebone, and Oxford is also within easy reach.
Hughenden Manor and Waddesdon Manor are two interesting stately homes nearby, as well as Bletchley Park and Windsor Castle.

Local villages regularly appear on Midsomer Murders as they are so picturesque, and can be visited as part of a tour including a windmill, vineyard, brewery, a home for retired service horses along with quaint pubs and a picturesque 12th century church.

Countryside – walking along the River Thames, where water-based activities can also be arranged, hill-climbing in the Chilterns, walking in Burnham Beeches.
High Wycombe has a theatre, and Aylesbury’s theatre is renowned, although going to a London show is perfectly practicable.
